CHENNAI: Chennai Superstarz made it a hat-trick of wins in the ongoing Premier Badminton League on Friday. Their tie against Bengaluru Raptors did get tricky when it was tied 3-3, but Chennai’s Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty defeated PS Chan and RA Saputra in the deciding doubles match 13-15, 15-9, 15-9 to make it 4-3 for the hosts.
Chennai now finish the home leg at the top of the table while Benagluru are currently on fourth spot.
While the doubles pair did the job at the crunch, it was rising star Lakshya Sen who was the hero of the home leg for Chennai. The World No. 30 maintained his winning run as he blew away Brice Leverdez to help Chennai Supersatrz take a 3-2 lead. It was a dominating show by the youngster as he made it three out of three for himself in the tournament.
Chennai would have been happier if Gayatri Gopichand could maintain the start she got against World No. 2 Tai Tzu-Ying. The youngster won the first game 15-13 but Tai Tzu brought her class into play in the next two to win 15-6, 15-6 for Bengaluru.
The win helped Raptors make it 3-3 which pushed the game into the deciding doubles. Gayatri was obviously happy with her performance.
“Tai Tzu is my idol. Playing against her and winning a game feels amazing,” she said after the match.
